"A progressive and provocative 21st Century blues band" – C Michael Bailey, AAJ, USA 2017

The band’s exciting live set is based around rootsy originals, strong catchy riffs, interesting arrangements, and exciting grooves.

Vocalist Zoë Schwarz’ dynamic and commanding vocal delivery is both eclectic and suave at the same time; just like a chameleon, one part Janis Joplin, one Billie Holiday, and one Nina Simone”.

Soul Queen Aretha Franklin Tribute

Posted by [email protected] on October 22, 2019 at 6:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Fri 18 October 2019 at 8pm in Tyrrells at NST City

Join Cheyne "Queenie" Pride as she performs Aretha’s songs with a fantastic live band and vintage costuming. Weaving social history between numbers, this cool classy show not only affirms Aretha’s title of Queen of Soul, but also explains her significance in US history at that time, her link with the civil rights movement, and her family’s connection to Dr King.

Queenie’s tribute goes through Aretha Franklin's musical journey from gospel, to the Columbia years (standards/jazz/pop) and rhythm & blues, to her breakout hit Atlantic album in 1967 "Never Loved A Man".

This show is the most vocally-challenging thing Queenie has ever done. From Aretha's 50s childhood gospel roots, to her worldwide-wide chart dominance in her 20s it’s a deeply personal roadtrip down memory lane, one Queenie will love sharing alongside a live band featuring Electrric Baasist Psul Francis ( Paul Weller London Beat Midge Ure)

ABB, after 31 years together, is the band lauded by Guitarist Magazine with the words, “I would put this lot up against any of the top flight bands currently flying the flag for British blues”.

ABB are not your average “foot-to-the-floor” bar room blues band, but deliver a concert containing a diversity of original songs and lesser-known covers rooted in the blues, but not confined by its barriers.

In 2019 ABB are joined by Ray Foster, who is acknowledged as one of the UK’s most soulful singers.

ABB are:

Guitar/vocals – Chris Williams

Guitar/vocals – John Holmes

Keyboards – Mark Skerritt

Bass/vocals – Dave Christopher/Paul Francis

Drums – Dave Mayne

Vocal/harmonica – Ray Foster
